OUR PROGRAM

Paper Moon Playschool is a small, certified in-home program.  Our weekly rhythm includes circle-time gathering, yoga with Yoga Playgrounds, interactive music with Jory Sings, storytime, art, dance, and lots of outdoor free play in our garden.

Our playschool provides a loving, safe, and inspiring "home-away-from-home" for children, emphasizing independence, freedom within limits, and respect for others. We aim to offer an environment and experiences that nurture curiosity, imagination, competence, and a sense of wonder through play and creative expression.

We currently offer three half days of care for children 2.5-5 years old who confidently use the toilet independently.

PLAYSCHOOL CLOSURES

Our program follows the Portland Public School closure schedule for all legal holidays. In accordance with the schedule outlined by PPS each year, we are closed for Spring and Winter Breaks, three days in February, June, and July, and the last three weeks of August through Labor Day annually. Please note that the regular tuition rate will be charged even when the program is closed.

 FOOD ALLERGIES

If your child has a food allergy, please notify us in writing so that we can have an action plan for emergency care completed by the family physician.

GUIDANCE

Our discipline philosophy is that we will always put safety first. We will positively remind the child of what is expected of them concerning the situation. We will practice re-direction reminding the children of the appropriate behaviors and re-direct them to an alternative activity. If a child endangers themselves or others, we will intervene immediately to protect all children. Our approach to helping children with challenging behavior is clearly and consistently showing them how to solve problems using appropriate interactions. In most cases, comfort and conversation go a long way.  

ANIMALS

We have cats on the premises, deemed healthy by a veterinarian, and current on all immunizations; allergies should still be considered.
